Explore the freedom!

Our cycling route leads from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth (the “Garden Route”). The route is very varied in terms of landscape. You cycle on beautiful roads along the coast and on quiet roads (sometimes unpaved) through deserted and rugged landscapes. Sometimes the roads are busier, there will often be a broad escape lane.

The journey begins in lively, trendy Cape Town. A visit to Table Mountain, Robben Island (where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for years), Kirstenbosch, the botanical gardens and the city itself with the cozy Waterfront are recommended. Following, you cycle over the Cape Peninsula to the Cape of Good Hope. Of course, a visit to Stellenbosch, where you are able to find a lot of Dutch history, should not be missed. There are enough opportunities to visit the beautiful wineries along the way. In Hermanus, you have the chance to spot whales close to the coast. You cycle through the Kleine Karoo; a rugged area with special vegetation and famous places such as Oudtshoorn. Finally, there is the possibility (very recommended) just beyond Port Elizabeth to visit either a large or small-scale wildlife park. The cycling route ends in Port Elizabeth, from where you return home. Of course, there is the possibility to extend the trip with, for example, a visit to the Amakhala Game Reserve. Together with a lodge in this park, we can offer you an unique experience.

Safety

South West Africa, also known as the “Garden Route” is known as a safe region in South Africa. This also applies to the holiday cyclist, provided that you adhere to a few safety rules.
Attention is paid to this in the cycling route booklet.
