Explore the freedom!

The beautiful nature, impressive rice terraces, beautiful views, colorful markets, delicious food, warm encounters with locals and talking with hands and feet, you will experience it all during this spectacular bicycle route of around 3000 km. Do you have at least 8 weeks? Start this adventure and you will have an unforgettable experience!

The cycling route starts in Kunming, in the province of Yunnan (China). A fascinating and very clean city, located at an altitude of 1900 meters. From here you can first take a trip to the Stone Forest in Shilin, an impressive natural phenomenon. You leave Kunming and cycle along the azure blue Fuxian Lake. You arrive in Jianshui, with its beautifully restored historic downtown. After a steady climb, followed by a spectacular descent of 40 km, you arrive in Nansha on the Red River. From here on out you can visit the beautiful rice terraces of Yuanyang, which are the largest and considered the most beautiful in China. The entire region is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Cycling further along the Red River you reach the border with Vietnam.

From Lao Cai, you can take a trip to the mountain village of Sapa where you will encounter various mountain people. The route takes you further to the village of Bac Ha, where the women of the Flower H’mong sell their goods on the market in their colorful costumes.

You arrive in Hanoi where you can immerse yourself in the sultry bustle of the city. You can also take a trip from Hanoi to Halong Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with breathtaking landscapes. Cycling through the high limestone mountains that rise above the many rice fields and beautiful water features, you reach Ninh Binh. You will cycle past the largest temple complex in Southeast Asia, with hundreds of statues of monks and the largest Buddha statue in Vietnam. The route takes you through the remains of the Unesco Citadel of the Ho Dynasty and to the birthplace of Ho Chi Minh.

Via a tough but beautiful climb, you reach Laos, a relaxed country with a friendly population.

In Laos, you will cycle partly on unpaved roads where you will hardly encounter anyone. The other roads are paved and quiet or sometimes moderately busy, making it wonderful to cycle. Passing through a spectacular nature reserve, you reach Thakhek, a nice town on the Mekong river where you will have the opportunity to relax. What about enjoying a baguette in Savannakhet, a city with a colonial past? Your route takes you to the Bolaven plateau, a special area with many waterfalls and known for its coffee plantations. After a spectacular descent, you will arrive in Pakse, a tourist town, and you can enjoy a refined meal on the roof terrace of a beautiful hotel.

In Thailand, you will be amazed by the many rubber plantations. The rubber sheets hanging to dry on the side of the road like diapers. Visit a temple complex made entirely of (beer!) bottles. The temple complexes Phanom Rung and Muang Tam – the most beautiful examples of Khmer architecture in Thailand – are also worth a visit. You will come across many cassava plantations and rice fields. Visit a floating market or be surprised by thousands of Megabats hanging in the trees. Your route will take you to a 16 meter high and 22 meters long lying Ganesha, a Hindu god with an elephant’s head. Via beautiful little roads along palm tree plantations and wet rice fields, you will reach your final destination Lad Krabang, a suburb of Bangkok. By the swimming pool of a good quality hotel, you will have the opportunity to reminisce over the beautiful cycling trip you have just experienced!

This route can be expanded with a 2 or 3-day excursion to Halong Bay. Well worth it! We are happy to arrange it for you!
